Tanah Lot, one of the most popular places of interest in Bali, is located on the coast of West Bali, at the village of Beraban in the Tabanan Regency.
It is also called Tanah Let which means ancient land and also Tanah Lod, which means the land to the south.

The temple Pura Tanah Lot, simple in its construction, is dramatic in its ocean-front location and is one of the main temples in the worship of Balinese gods.
Tanah Lot has a long history in the world of tourism.
The temple itself is built on a small promontory which is only accessible at low tide.

During high water the rock takes on the appearance of a large boat at sea, such is its shape.
Poisonous snakes live in the nearby caves to 'guard' the temple and contribute to the temple's dangerous reputation.
Sunset is the best time to visit Tanah lot, when the golden red skies frame the temple and waves crash into the rocks.
It is advisable to avoid the tourist crush here as it can be severe.

End of Galungan Procession in Tanah Lot

Tomorrow, balinese in Tanah Lot celebrated the end of Galungan period, the end of a period that full of holidays and festivity, which is well known as Ulihan. Ulihan takes place four days after Galungan Day, at the Sunday of Kuningan, the 12th week of the Balinese Pawukon calendar. At Ulihan Day the Dewata (gods) return to their respective Kahyangan or heavens. Though this holiday is important and the amount of offering that is presented to the God is quite equal with Galungan Holiday (Balinese Christmas), it is celebrated with a level of festivity or pomposity far below the Galungan. It seems that only the housewives celebrate this holiday.
Beside Ulihan day, tomorrow also Tilem Kapat, is day of a new moon. On this day extra offerings are made around the family compound, as well as some offerings placed on the ground at the entrance to the house compound. The towering 'sesajen' offerings are also often taken to the village temple. New moon for this time called "Tilem Kapat" according to balinese calendar. Some people believe that to bathe in water perfumed by the fragrant petals of the frangipani flower under the light of the full moon will wash away your sins, while ensuring that you will remain youthfully attractive.

Kapat is also the long-awaited month for Balinese farmers since its rain is essential for the rice fields. Kapat (October) is also a ceremony season in Bali since Kapat is considered to be a lucky month for the ceremony. Many temple anniversaries will be held on the full moon of Kapat, besides there also many rites of passage especially wedding ceremony takes place this month. With its soothing rains and blooming flowers, the beauty of Kapat is immortalized by many Balinese traditional poets in Kakawin or Geguritan (a kind of traditional poem).
